Dr. David B. Capes is Professor in Christianity at the College of Arts and Humanities and Interim Dean of the Honors College at Houston Baptist University.

Dr. Capes' teaching and research focus on New Testament theology, Koine Greek grammar and reading courses, early Christianity, intertextuality, Christian worship and inter-religious dialogue. 

Dr. Capes has authored or co-authored a number of books including: Old Testament Yahweh Texts in Paul’s Christology (JCB Mohr, 1992); The Footsteps of Jesus in the Holy Land (Steimatsky, 1999); The Last Eyewitness: the Final Week (Thomas Nelson, 2006); Rediscovering Paul: an Introduction to His World, Letters, and Theology (InterVarsity, 2007); Rebecca’s Children: Christology and Community in Early Judaism and Early Christianity (Baylor University Press, 2007); The Voice of Hebrews: the Mystery of Melchizedek (Thomas Nelson, 2008); and The Voice of Romans: the Gospel according to Paul (Thomas Nelson, 2008). In addition he has contributed to a number of dictionaries, encyclopedias and professional journals. 

Dr. Capes currently serves as interim dean of the Honors College at HBU and chair of the Honors College Advisory Council. He was honored by the university in 1996 and again in 2005 with the Opal Goolsby Outstanding Teaching Award. In 2002 he was HBU's Piper nominee.
